Ukraine's Official Forecasters Dismiss Sensational Claims of -30°C Freeze

Official meteorological services in Ukraine have refuted sensational online predictions of temperatures plummeting to -30°C. While forecasters do anticipate a severe cold snap, the most significant drop is expected on January 18-19. On January 18, temperatures in northern regions could fall to -21…-25°C, which is notably cold but far from the extreme lows circulated by some sources. This comes during a winter where reliable information is crucial for public safety and planning.

Forecast for January 19

On January 19, daytime temperatures across Ukraine are predicted to be around -10…-16°C, confirming a period of intense cold. In the southwest, particularly in Zakarpattia, nighttime lows are forecast between -6 and -13°C, with daytime highs of -2…-8°C. This data confirms that while the freeze will be severe, it will not reach the extreme values suggested in some unverified reports.

The scenario of temperatures near -30°C is not supported by the state weather service, raising concerns about the reliability of certain information sources. Specifically, the Ventusky weather service had forecast a potential 'Arctic invasion' from Siberia by the end of next week, but official meteorologists advise against trusting such predictions.

Natalia Ptukha stated: 'What is on the internet is merely speculation. One should only look at official resources.'

Natalia Didenko also emphasized that 'most popular weather sites should be trusted with caution.'

Thus, despite certain forecasts predicting extreme frost, official meteorological services assure that temperatures in Ukraine will be significantly higher than suggested in sensationalist reports.

This situation underscores the importance of consulting reliable sources of information, especially when forecasts can cause public alarm. Given the official predictions, Ukrainians should prepare for cold weather but without grounds for excessive concern over critical temperatures. In this context, it is vital to follow the recommendations of meteorological services and verify information on official platforms.
