Ukraine Braces for a Thaw: Warmer Temperatures Forecast for January 22-25

Meteorologist Vitaliy Pistryan has announced that the frigid anticyclone dominating Ukraine's weather is finally receding. A significant shift is expected from January 22 to 25, 2026, with air temperatures forecast to rise by 5-7 degrees Celsius.

This warming trend signals a gradual end to the recent severe cold spell. The coldest night last week was recorded in the Zhytomyr and Kyiv regions, where the mercury plunged to -23 degrees Celsius.

According to the expert, this may not have been the lowest point, and the coming night could be even harsher. Vitaliy Pistryan

During the forecast period, Ukraine can expect light snowfall and some temperature fluctuations. Such winter thaws are a common feature of the region's climate, often bringing a mix of relief and new challenges.

The overall temperature increase of 5-7 degrees indicates that the coldest days are being left behind, ushering in a new phase of milder conditions for the country. This warming could benefit the agricultural sector by reducing frost severity and creating more favorable conditions for plant growth. However, potential snow showers may lead to temporary travel difficulties on the roads. These changing weather patterns are occurring within the broader context of global climate shifts, which may influence future seasonal trends.
