The Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) Program

Since the onset of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine has been operating the Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) program in collaboration with the European Union, partner governments, and with support from the World Health Organization. This initiative is designed to provide treatment for Ukrainians in foreign healthcare facilities.

The Ukraine Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) program facilitates access to treatment and rehabilitation for patients requiring urgent medical care. The scope of services provided includes:

  • Trauma treatment
  • Oncological care
  • Burn treatment
  • Rehabilitation and prosthetics

As of the beginning of 2026, more than 6,400 Ukrainian patients have received medical assistance through this program, with care delivered in healthcare institutions across 33 countries. All services have been provided free of charge and to a high standard, underscoring the program's vital role for Ukrainian citizens during a time of crisis. This international effort has been a crucial lifeline, supplementing Ukraine's overburdened domestic healthcare system.

The Significance of the MEDEVAC Program

The MEDEVAC program represents a critical component of support for Ukraine's healthcare system amidst the ongoing military conflict. It enables Ukrainians to access necessary medical treatment abroad, which is essential for preserving their health and quality of life.

Initiatives like this also highlight the solidarity of the international community with Ukraine during this challenging period.
