The Ministry of Health of Ukraine has approved a new Standard for providing rehabilitation assistance to children with cerebral palsy. This standard, the first of its kind in Ukraine, is based on the best global practices.
Cerebral palsy and organic lesions of the brain in children can seriously complicate control over movements, muscle tone, and coordination. Specialists guided by the new Standard use international standards and practices.
'The approved Standard aims to make patient rehabilitation more family-centered and employs a systematic approach to the child based on proven international practices.'
The new document considers a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation, which involves the work of a multidisciplinary team, early diagnosis, physical therapy, and occupational therapy, as well as the development of speech and communication in children with such diagnoses.
This project is part of a strategy to create an accessible environment in Ukraine and is key to the policy of recovery after injuries, diseases, and war. The new Standard will contribute to improving the quality and transparency of the rehabilitation assistance system for children with cerebral palsy.
