New National Health Screening Program for Adults 40+
On January 31, 2026, Ukraine's Ministry of Health initiated a nationwide, free health screening program for citizens aged 40 and older. The program, called 'Health Screening 40+', is being rolled out in phases based on participants' birth dates. Eligible individuals receive a 2000 hryvnia state-funded allowance for medical services, which is accessed and managed through the government's 'Diia' mobile application. This initiative represents a significant public health effort in Ukraine, aiming to improve preventative care.
The first notifications were sent to citizens born on January 1. The 'Health Screening 40+' program is designed to detect cardiovascular diseases and diabetes, provide basic cancer risk screening, and assess mental well-being. Over 800 medical facilities across the country are participating in the system, ensuring broad access to these services for all enrolled individuals.
How to Complete the Screening Process
The screening involves a straightforward, multi-step procedure:
- First, receive a push notification in the 'Diia' app.
- Then, submit an application within the app's 'Services' section.
- The next step is to select a participating medical clinic on the program's official website, screening.moz.gov.ua.
- Finally, schedule and attend the appointment for the examination.
The screening package includes several key checks:
- Cardiac function assessment,
- Blood sugar level analysis,
- Basic diagnostics for early detection of cancer risks,
- Mental health status testing.
In a related move to support healthcare affordability, the Cabinet of Ministers has directed the Ministry of Health and the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection to monitor medication prices. Pharmacies found to be overcharging will face financial penalties.
The launch of 'Health Screening 40+' is a crucial step toward improving the health of Ukraine's population, particularly for those over 40 who face higher risks for various conditions. By making the program free and easily accessible via a popular app, the government hopes to significantly increase citizen participation in preventative medical check-ups. The accompanying oversight on drug prices is also intended to improve the overall accessibility of medical care.
