Mudryk's Career Comeback Gets Green Light
Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk is free to return to professional football after the four-year ban imposed in his doping case was annulled. The 24-year-old broke the news on his Instagram account. A sample he provided in September 2024 tested positive for meldonium, and the suspension was handed down in April 2024. His last match for Chelsea came on December 1, 2024, when the London club faced Aston Villa in the Premier League. Since that day, Mudryk has missed four consecutive fixtures and has not played an official game in more than 18 months.
Had the penalty remained in force, Mudryk would have been sidelined until 2028. In his statement, he said:
"I have never knowingly or intentionally taken any banned substances. My commitment to fair competition, and to representing my club and country with professionalism and honesty, has always been important to me."
Mudryk's Football Journey So Far
Born in Berestyn, Kharkiv Oblast, Mudryk progressed through the youth setup at Metalist Kharkiv before moving to Dnipro and later Shakhtar. He signed for Chelsea in January 2023 for roughly €70 million, a transfer that remains the most expensive in Ukrainian football history. He made his senior debut for Ukraine in 2022.
