IMF Disbursement for Ukraine

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is expected to approve a $690 million tranche for Ukraine by mid-July. This decision will follow the first review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko confirmed the development.

The IMF board meeting, scheduled for mid-July, will address the next installment. During a recent meeting with IMF First Deputy Managing Director Den Kaco, officials assessed the outcomes of the initial EFF review and mapped out future collaboration steps. The IMF mission, led by Gavin Gray, began this review in Ukraine in late May.

The EFF Program and Its Significance

The four-year EFF program is worth a total of $8.1 billion. Svyrydenko highlighted the importance of these funds, stating that

“the shared goal is to leverage the country’s preserved macro-financial stability as a foundation for attracting private investment, fostering business growth, and supporting Ukraine’s large-scale reconstruction.”

Upcoming milestones under the EFF program include:

  • Implementing structural reforms
  • Preparing for subsequent program reviews

Securing the IMF tranche marks a critical step in Ukraine’s financial support, as the country continues to face economic hurdles stemming from the ongoing conflict and its aftermath. A successful completion of the EFF review could pave the way for additional foreign investment, which is essential for Ukraine’s recovery and development amid current challenges.

As Ukraine prepares to receive this crucial $690 million tranche, it's important to note the recent developments regarding IMF support. In a similar context, the IMF has previously approved a $700 million disbursement for Ukraine despite unmet conditions. This highlights the ongoing commitment of international financial institutions to assist Ukraine during these challenging times.
