Ukrainian Citizens Evacuated from Conflict Zones
In a coordinated effort with international partners, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully evacuated its citizens from dangerous regions in the Middle East and Iran. This operation highlights Ukraine's commitment to protecting its nationals abroad, even while managing a major war at home. On March 11-12, a group of 16 Ukrainians arrived in Warsaw, an evacuation stage made possible with support from Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ukrainian diplomats stationed in Poland, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Kuwait facilitated the safe return of these citizens who were stranded due to regional hostilities.
In a separate operation, Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate and the Foreign Ministry evacuated more than 30 Ukrainians from Iran. The multi-stage evacuation process involved:
- gathering at the Ukrainian Embassy in Tehran,
- transport by bus to the Iranian-Azerbaijani border,
- and a crossing on foot over the Araks River bridge.
A distinct mission also evacuated 176 people from Israel, of whom 133 were Ukrainian citizens. The evacuees from Israel included nationals from Moldova, Latvia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, and the United States. The aircraft carrying these passengers landed in Moldova.
