Another new electric train - ER9T - has been launched in Chernihiv. This is the 12th modernized train that has appeared thanks to the efforts of Ukrzaliznytsia in 2025, and overall it is the 48th.
The refurbished and modernized train from 1988 now has new equipment and amenities for passengers, such as inclusive spaces, charging sockets, tables, and bike places.
According to Oleksii Balesta, Deputy Minister for Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, Ukrzaliznytsia is working on improving suburban transportation by modernizing trains and enhancing funding for passenger transportation.
Important update for passengers
Modernization of trains is a response to the needs of modernity, which have become complicated due to many years of insufficient funding. Investment in the update of electric trains is a key aspect for maintaining and developing the railway. Currently, the state and Ukrzaliznytsia continue to improve the rolling stock and infrastructure even with limited resources.
Every day, over 100,000 passengers use suburban trains. In the future, Ukrzaliznytsia plans to continue the program for the modernization of electric trains next year.
