Tragedy Strikes in Chernihiv Region
Two brothers lost their lives in the Oster River near the village of Birky, located in the Chernihiv district. The victims, aged 17 and 10, drowned while swimming. Recovery efforts were carried out by divers from the Chernihiv Regional Rescue and Diving Service, working alongside emergency responders from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES).
This incident is part of a broader, troubling pattern. Over the past 24 hours, four people—including two children—have died in water-related accidents across the country. Since the start of this month, 67 Ukrainians have perished in such incidents, among them five children.
Parents, never let your children out of your sight near water! A single moment of carelessness can cost a life. Protect what matters most.
Water Safety Guidelines
This tragedy underscores the critical need to follow water safety rules, especially for children during summer recreation. With many people flocking to lakes, rivers, and beaches in the warmer months, authorities and rescue services urge parents to stay vigilant. Both adults and children remain vulnerable to fatal accidents on the water, making constant supervision a life-saving necessity.
This heartbreaking incident is not an isolated case, as just recently, several children went missing in the Dniester River, highlighting the urgent need for increased awareness about water safety. As summer continues, it's crucial for parents to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of their children around water bodies.
