A life given fully to Ukraine
Maksym Dmytryshyn, once a celebrated boxer and coach, joined the National Guard of Ukraine in 2023. He went on to command the 3rd section of strike drone units in the 15th Operational Brigade "Kara-Dag." On April 30, 2026, he was killed in action near Husynka, a village in the Kharkiv region. He was only 29 years old.
Dmytryshyn dedicated his early years to boxing, becoming a Master of Sports of Ukraine. He represented the Odesa region in competitions across the country. Later, as a coach, he shaped young athletes who would earn medals at regional championships and qualify for national tournaments.
His service took him to some of the most dangerous front lines: Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kharkiv. His courage earned him the "For the Defense of Ukraine" medal and the "Cross of the Brave" award.
"What will I tell the children after the war? What did I do? I would be ashamed to look them in the eye if I had hidden." — Maksym Dmytryshyn
This tragedy reflects the ongoing human cost of Russia's invasion, reminding the world that Ukraine's soldiers come from all walks of life. Dmytryshyn's transformation from athlete to military officer is a powerful example of patriotism. His death also forces painful questions about how to support the families of those who give everything.
