Унаслідок удару ворожого безпілотника по поліцейському автомобілю у Херсонській області загинув офіцер Віталій Кухарчук.

Police Officer Vitaliy Kukharchuk Killed in Action

On the morning of Sunday, April 5, 2026, police officer Vitaliy Kukharchuk was killed in the Kherson region. His death resulted from a direct hit by a Russian FPV drone on the service vehicle of his mobile fire support team. The attack occurred while he was on duty as part of an operational unit tasked with protecting local residents from aerial threats. The ongoing conflict in southern Ukraine has seen a sharp increase in the use of such first-person-view drones for precision strikes.

Vitaliy Kukharchuk was born on September 1, 1990, and began his service in the internal affairs bodies in November 2010 as a traffic patrol inspector. During his career, he held various positions, including that of a district police officer. In September 2021, he was transferred to a special police unit. In the summer of 2024, he joined the special police battalion of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kherson region. There, he proved himself an effective defender, credited with destroying dozens of Russian drones.

Regional Situation and Broader Impact

The National Police of Ukraine confirmed Kukharchuk's death, stating:

“In the Kherson region, police officer Vitaliy Kukharchuk was killed as a result of a Russian drone attack. Our colleague, as part of a mobile fire support group, was protecting Kherson residents from enemy drones.”
The tragedy followed another incident the previous day in Kherson, where a 55-year-old medical worker died from injuries sustained in a Russian artillery strike that hit a public transport stop. These back-to-back attacks underscore the persistently dangerous and volatile situation for civilians and defenders in the region.

The death of Vitaliy Kukharchuk highlights the constant dangers faced by Ukrainian security forces in the ongoing conflict. Attacks on both civilians and military personnel, particularly through the use of drones, demonstrate an escalation of violence. This incident also emphasizes the critical importance of protecting the local population from aerial threats, which remain a grim reality of the war.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, with recent events highlighting the perilous situation in the region. In addition to the tragic loss of Officer Kukharchuk, Russian strikes on Odesa and Kherson have resulted in further casualties, emphasizing the urgent need for awareness of the dangers faced by both civilians and military personnel alike.
