Tragedy Strikes in the Village of Mala Kuzhelivka
A 10-year-old boy has died after a grenade exploded inside a home in the village of Mala Kuzhelivka, Khmelnytskyi region. The incident occurred on February 22 at approximately 9:45 PM. Preliminary reports indicate the child was handling the grenade when it detonated, causing fatal injuries. This devastating event highlights the persistent dangers posed by explosive ordnance in civilian areas.
The boy's 45-year-old mother was also injured in the blast and was hospitalized in the trauma department of the Dunayivtsi hospital. Emergency medical services, police investigators, forensic experts, explosives technicians, and canine units all responded to the scene. Despite attempts by medics to resuscitate him, the boy sustained injuries incompatible with life.
Ongoing Investigation and a Pattern of Dangerous Incidents
Law enforcement officers searched the house and surrounding area, recovering grenade fragments for further examination. Investigators have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 263 and Part 2, Clause 2 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation is ongoing.
This tragedy follows other recent dangerous incidents, including an explosion during a demonstration of munitions at a Dnipro lyceum on February 23, which resulted in injuries to children.
