Investigation Underway at Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant
On June 25, authorized law enforcement agencies began investigative actions at the Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant site, focusing on specific procurement procedures carried out in previous years. The state-owned enterprise Energoatom has confirmed it is fully cooperating with the authorities, providing all necessary documentation and information as required by Ukrainian law. The company has expressed its interest in a comprehensive, objective, and impartial clarification of all circumstances related to the case.
The State Audit Service of Ukraine has completed a financial audit of Energoatom, which included reviews of certain aspects of the company’s financial and economic activities. The audit materials have been handed over to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). Details of the audit are not being disclosed at this time, in accordance with Article 222 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Energoatom Leadership’s Stance
Energoatom’s management emphasizes its consistent commitment to transparency and accountability in corporate governance. The company supports full cooperation with law enforcement and advocates for proper legal evaluation of any potential violations, regardless of when they occurred. It is important to note that the ongoing investigative actions do not affect the plant’s operational processes or safety. The Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant continues to operate in normal mode, ensuring reliable and safe operation of its power units and stable electricity generation for the country’s needs.
This investigation is part of a broader anti-corruption campaign in Ukraine, which includes audits of state-owned enterprises and their financial activities. Energoatom’s support for law enforcement reflects the company’s intention to ensure transparency in management and to uncover any potential wrongdoing. Such efforts are crucial for restoring trust in state energy institutions and improving the investment climate in Ukraine.
