Tragedy in the Village of Zadnistrianske
Police in the village of Zadnistrianske, Ivano-Frankivsk region, are investigating the death of a seven-month-old boy. His 18-year-old mother has been formally notified of suspicion in the crime. According to forensic findings, the infant died from a closed craniocerebral injury, which was accompanied by subdural hemorrhaging, brain swelling, and compression.
The incident occurred on the morning of March 2, when an emergency doctor reported the baby's death. Initially, the mother claimed the child had choked on formula. However, the investigation revealed that the woman had consumed low-alcohol beverages the night before. In the morning, when the baby woke up crying, she allegedly struck him several times on the head with her hand, causing the fatal injuries.
A pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the suspect faces up to 10 years of imprisonment. In a separate case, a 25-year-old woman in the Cherkasy region has also been notified of suspicion for the intentional killing of her newborn child. These tragic incidents highlight ongoing challenges with family violence and support systems in Ukraine, particularly for young parents under stress.
