A lift with people got stuck in Lviv region: rescuers evacuated 78 people

Incident on Mount Zakhar Berkut

On December 26, an incident occurred on Mount Zakhar Berkut in the Lviv region when a lift stopped with passengers, resulting in about 80 people being stuck. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) was involved in the rescue operation.

As of 1:04 PM, mountain rescue units had removed 42 people from the chairlift, including 22 children. Half an hour later, at 1:35 PM, rescuers had evacuated 62 individuals, 35 of whom were children. By 2:06 PM, the rescue operation was completed, and 78 people were removed from the lift, including 39 children.

Details of the rescue operation

The following were involved in the rescue operation:

  • 41 rescuers and 6 units of equipment;
  • 35 rescuers and 7 units of equipment from the Mobile Rescue Center;
  • 4 drones for monitoring the situation.

In total, the rescue operation lasted more than two hours.

This incident highlights the importance of rapid response from emergency services in crisis situations, especially when the safety of children is at stake.

Effective coordination between rescuers and the use of modern technologies, such as drones, contributed to the successful evacuation of people stuck on the lift. Such cases may prompt a review of the maintenance and safety of ski lifts in Ukraine.
