Honoring Ihor Poklad with a Memorial
A monument has been placed at the burial site of Ukrainian composer Ihor Poklad, who passed away on July 9, 2025. His widow, Svitlana, shared details about the design and her late husband’s final wish. The memorial features a granite base topped with a cross at its center. Next to it stands a portrait of the composer, based on a photograph by Felix Rosenstein. Poklad’s grave is located at the Berkovets Cemetery, next to his mother’s resting place.
A Lasting Musical Legacy
Awarded the title Hero of Ukraine and People’s Artist of Ukraine, Ihor Poklad left behind an immense musical catalog. He composed over 150 songs and created soundtracks for more than 40 films. Some of his most iconic hits include:

- Teche Voda (Water Flows)
- Kohana (Beloved)
Poklad’s wife plans to fulfill his final wish by donating his grand piano to the music school in Ternopil, where he once studied. She intends to complete this by the end of the current year, and the school will be renamed in his honor.
Svitlana also reflected on personal memories, noting:
“He never liked public events. Everything was just for us, for the family.”She described one of the last photos of Ihor Dmytrovych as 'simply incredible, because his character is laid bare in it.' These remarks underscore how the memory of this outstanding composer lives on not only through his music but also in the hearts of those closest to him.
The erection of the monument marks a significant step in celebrating Poklad’s creative legacy and recognizing his contributions to Ukrainian music. The composer, who left behind a rich body of work, continues to resonate with fans through his songs and artistry. Donating the piano to the Ternopil music school will serve as a lasting symbol of his connection to young musicians who draw inspiration from his oeuvre.
