Russian Drones Drop Propaganda Leaflets Over Ukraine's Sumy Region

Беспілотники Росії розповсюджують агітаційні листівки в Сумській області України.

Propaganda Leaflets Dropped in Sumy

On May 7, 2026, Russian occupation forces used drones to scatter propaganda leaflets over the city of Sumy. Mobile response teams operating in the area managed to shoot down the enemy drone carrying out the mission. The dropped leaflets feature Soviet-era narratives and urge local residents to halt their resistance.

According to local residents and reports from Telegram channels, the leaflets aim to pressure the population into abandoning resistance, stir internal societal conflicts rooted in World War II history, and exploit the symbolism of May 9 to legitimize the ongoing armed aggression. One of the leaflets includes the phrase: 'Our grandfathers were brothers in the trenches.'

Fake Banknotes and Threats

Additionally, in the Sumy region, there have been cases of fake banknotes containing QR codes being dropped, which may also be part of the information warfare. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, particularly in Nikopol, leaflets containing threats of a potential crossing of the Dnipro River have been circulating.

Experts urge the public not to share photos of these leaflets on social media and not to trust the content of enemy messages, as Russian forces shell the Sumy region daily, killing civilians. Where possible, it is recommended to destroy any discovered propaganda materials to reduce their impact on society.

The dropping of propaganda leaflets and fake banknotes signals an escalation in information warfare by Russian occupation forces, who are attempting to influence local residents' minds and sow panic. Amid the ongoing conflict, it is crucial for the population to remain informed and critically assess enemy propaganda, which could otherwise undermine societal stability and security.

As the situation in the Sumy region intensifies, Ukrainian forces have refuted claims of territorial losses, emphasizing the need for vigilance against misinformation. The recent aerial propaganda campaign illustrates the ongoing struggle for control over narratives, making it essential for residents to stay informed about the realities on the ground.
