A Tragedy on February 5, 2026
Serhii Fisun, a 47-year-old journalist and officer in Ukraine's Air Assault Forces, was killed on February 5, 2026, while traveling on the Sloviansk-Kharkiv highway. His death was caused by a strike from an enemy Lancet-type drone. His funeral is scheduled to take place in Kharkiv in the coming days. The use of such loitering munitions has become a grim hallmark of the conflict, targeting both military and civilian infrastructure.
Serhii Fisun was originally from Kolomyia in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. He earned a higher education degree in history from Karazin Kharkiv National University. After graduating, he worked as a television correspondent in Kharkiv and was a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine. As a photojournalist, he participated in the Revolution of Dignity, joining the 28th Hundred of the Maidan after his father was wounded.
Military Service and Honors
With the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Serhii Fisun volunteered for military service, serving in various units of the Air Assault Forces. During his service, he was recognized with departmental awards, commendations from command, and was presented with an award firearm.
