A string of road accidents involving underage drivers of motorcycles and mopeds occurred in Vinnytsia Oblast in April and May 2023. These incidents include collisions, pedestrian and cyclist hits, and one fatality. An investigation has been launched under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Specific Accident Cases

On May 23, in the village of Klembivka on Nakonechnoho Street, a Spark motorcycle driven by a 14-year-old local girl collided with an Audi driven by a 22-year-old man. The female rider and her 19-year-old passenger sustained injuries and were hospitalized. The investigation continues under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which carries a sentence of up to three years of restricted freedom and a three-year revocation of driving privileges.

  • On May 19, in the town of Tyvriv, a 15-year-old boy driving a Honda moped struck a 13-year-old girl crossing the roadway. The vehicle was seized and impounded.
  • On April 29, in the village of Murafa, Zhmerynka district, a crash left three people injured. Blood samples were taken from the moped driver for testing.
  • On April 22, in the town of Suty sky, a 17-year-old driving a Geon motorcycle hit an eight-year-old boy on a bicycle at an uncontrolled crosswalk.
  • On April 29, in Ladyzhyn, a 15-year-old teenager struck two schoolgirls at an uncontrolled crosswalk, sending a 14-year-old girl to the hospital.
  • On April 22, in the village of Zoziv, a 17-year-old resident of Mervyn, while riding a Mustang motorcycle, veered into a ditch and collided with a tree. He later died in the hospital from his injuries.

These incidents highlight the critical need for road safety compliance, especially among young drivers. Authorities continue their investigations, and penalties for safety violations may include restricted freedom and loss of driving rights.

The surge in accidents involving underage drivers in Vinnytsia Oblast has raised alarm among the public and law enforcement.
