On December 10, a fire occurred in one of the buildings of the Holy Protection Men's Monastery in the village of Kostryno in Transcarpathia. This was reported by the Metropolitan of Mukachevo and Uzhhorod of the UOC MP, Theodor. He urged the faithful to pray for the shrine that was damaged as a result of the fire.
According to the State Emergency Service, the fire destroyed a neighboring building where the monks lived, but not the wooden church, which is a national monument. The fire was successfully extinguished; the blaze was noticed at 19:29, and the fire was put out in two and a half hours.
Clergymen living nearby first noticed the flames and called the rescuers. Despite the difficult conditions, the firefighting was successful, thanks to the organized work of the rescuers.
