In Transcarpathia, law enforcement officials detained the head of the military medical commission, who is suspected of extorting bribes for fake medical conclusions for conscripts. During searches, cash in various currencies worth about 11 million UAH was seized from him. This is reported by the Office of the Attorney General.
Bribery in the Military Medical Commission: scheme and details of the detention
According to the investigation, the 60-year-old official demanded 6 thousand US dollars to facilitate the passing of the military medical commission and to obtain a conclusion about limited suitability for service.
It was a matter of issuing documents without real examinations and formal confirmation of diagnoses based on old medical certificates.
Law enforcement officials documented the transfer of part of the funds. After issuing the conclusion and handing over documents to the military recruitment center, the official was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
During a search on April 20 at his residence, they seized:
- over 240 thousand US dollars;
- more than 3 thousand euros;
- almost 1.3 million forints;
- over 260 thousand UAH.
The total equivalent of the cash is about 11 million UAH. Among the seized items were also marked banknotes, transmitted as part of a crime control.
Corruption in the Military Medical Commission: what punishment is looming
The actions of the official were classified under paragraph 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — receiving illegal benefits by an official.
He has currently been informed of suspicion and an application is being prepared for a preventive measure in the form of detention. The question of his suspension from office is also being resolved.
The sanction of the article provides for:
- up to 10 years of imprisonment;
- confiscation of property;
- prohibition of holding certain positions.
The investigation is establishing other possible participants in the scheme. The investigation is being conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation in Lviv with the participation of the Security Service of Ukraine.
The prosecutor's office notes that since the beginning of 2026, suspicion has been announced to 84 officials of military recruitment centers and military medical commissions in cases related to corruption during mobilization. The total amount of documented bribes exceeds 224.9 thousand dollars and 333 thousand UAH.
Recall that a tragedy occurred in Transcarpathia: a minor girl died from electric shock while resting near a water body. The incident occurred at a lake in the village of Poroshkovo when the girl was under a high-voltage power line.
