On Tuesday, September 23, a new accident occurred at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (NPP). This is already the tenth blackout at the station since its occupation by the Russians began. According to the Ministry of Energy, this was reported by the portal 'Glavkom'.
'Today at 16:56, the only power line through which the Zaporizhzhia NPP received power from the Ukrainian energy system was disconnected. The NPP switched to power from diesel generators for its own needs. This is a significant violation of the normal operating conditions of the station,' the message states.
The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that the station has been experiencing power outages due to shelling from Russia and damage to energy infrastructure throughout the entire period of occupation. The incident that occurred today brings attention again to the safety issues at the NPP.
Demands on Russia
The Ministry of Energy calls on the international community to take decisive action regarding the Russian occupation of the station. They believe that regaining control of the NPP by Ukraine is the only way to restore nuclear safety in the region. Earlier, the IAEA appealed to Russia with a demand to demilitarize and deoccupy the Zaporizhzhia NPP.
As a result of the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP by Russian troops, there are constant problems with safety and stability of power supply. The Ministry of Energy and other organizations are calling for decisive measures to regain control of the station by Ukraine to ensure normal operation and nuclear safety in the region.
