NABU and SAP conducted searches at Yermak's: what is known about the 'Midas' case
On November 28, 2023, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) conducted searches at the home of the President's Office head, Andriy Yermak. These actions are part of an investigation related to corruption in the energy sector.
The searches, which were authorized, are taking place within the framework of an open proceeding. The context of the investigation concerns the 'Midas' case, which is associated with a kickback scheme in the Ukrainian state enterprise 'Energoatom'. Recall that on November 10 of this year, the 'Mindyich tapes' were made public, which recorded demands for kickbacks of 10-15% from contracts. The total volume of shadow operations, by preliminary estimates, could reach 100 million dollars.
"Today NABU and SAP are indeed conducting procedural actions at my home. There are no obstacles for investigators. They have been given full access to the apartment, and on site are my lawyers, who are interacting with law enforcement. From my side, full cooperation."
Andriy Yermak
These events attract public and media attention, as cases related to corruption at the highest level always generate significant interest and discussion. We will follow the further development of the situation.
The Importance of the Investigation
The investigation of the 'Midas' case is an important step in the fight against corruption in Ukraine, especially in the context of the energy sector, where corrupt schemes can have significant consequences for the economy and the security of the country. The conducted searches at a high-ranking official indicate growing pressure on anti-corruption bodies and their determination to expose corrupt practices, which, in turn, may influence public trust in government institutions.
