Completion of the investigation in the case of high-ranking officials

NABU and SAP concluded the investigation in the case of the former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine and five other individuals suspected of abuse of office and obtaining illegal benefits. The case concerns an illegal scheme related to the acquisition of land in Kyiv for the construction of a residential complex. The total damage from these actions exceeds one billion hryvnias.

Among the suspects are not only the former Deputy Prime Minister but also:

  • the Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine,
  • the State Secretary of the Ministry of Regional Development,
  • an advisor to the Minister,
  • the director of a state enterprise.

All of them are suspected of abusing their official positions and obtaining illegal benefits in particularly large amounts. According to the investigation materials, the land plot on which construction was planned was valued almost five times cheaper than the market price. The price difference exceeded one billion hryvnias.

In addition, the Minister received a discount totaling more than 14.5 million hryvnias. As part of the investigation, a large portion of the illegally obtained apartments has been seized. The investigation continues to gather materials for further consideration of this case in court.

The importance of the case in the context of the fight against corruption

This case is an important step in the fight against corruption in Ukraine, as it concerns high-ranking officials who have significant influence on state decisions. The completion of the investigation may serve as a catalyst for further actions by law enforcement agencies in investigating similar cases of abuse of power.

It is expected that society will closely monitor the developments of this case in court, as it emphasizes the need for accountability of public officials for their actions.
