At the beginning of July 2025, there were almost 860 billion hryvnias in circulation in Ukraine, which is 37.5 billion more compared to the beginning of the year. This represents a growth of 4.6%. The most common banknotes in circulation are those with a denomination of 500 hryvnias, while the least common are 50 hryvnia notes.

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, there are 2.6 billion banknotes in cash circulation with a total value of 851.2 billion hryvnias and about 15 billion coins worth 8.5 billion hryvnias.

Among the circulating coins, those with a denomination of 1 hryvnia are the most common, accounting for 4.4%, while 10-hryvnia coins are the least common, making up only 2% of the total number of coins.

Currently, the old 5-hryvnia banknote brings its owners 17 thousand hryvnias at auctions.

The amount of cash in circulation in the country is an important indicator of the economy. An increase in the volume of cash in circulation may indicate growth in consumer spending and other economic activities. The distribution of cash flow, as well as the distribution by the denominations of banknotes and coins, can indicate demand and consumption in various sectors of the economy.
