The National Bank of Poland calls for the exchange of damaged zlotys: deadline - December 2025

Національний банк Польщі закликає громадян обміняти зіпсовані гроші: термін до грудня 2025 року.

Call from the National Bank of Poland to citizens

The National Bank of Poland (NBP) has urged citizens and migrants to urgently exchange worn or damaged banknotes and coins. The deadline for this is the end of December 2025. After this date, starting from 2026, such money may be rejected in stores, which could create inconveniences for their owners.

The exchange of damaged zlotys is necessary, as banknotes may be rejected if they have lost readability or part of their security features. NBP advises not to postpone the exchange until the last moment, as this may complicate financial transactions. The exchange can be carried out in selected NBP branches and commercial banks that offer this service.

The importance of exchanging worn banknotes

It is worth noting that the National Bank of Poland keeps fragments of damaged banknotes for only six months. Therefore, if you have worn or damaged money, it is advisable to take the opportunity to exchange it in time.

This appeal from the NBP is an important step to ensure the stability of the country's financial system, as worn banknotes can cause problems in making payments. – National Bank of Poland

Citizens and migrants should pay attention to the opportunity for exchange, as after the established deadline their worn money may become invalid. It is quite likely that in the coming years, given new technologies and changes in financial practices, the NBP will continue to implement new initiatives to improve customer service and the security of financial transactions.
