National Bank of Ukraine Issues Warning
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has issued a public warning regarding a new wave of cyber fraud. Criminals are distributing emails containing malicious software, cleverly disguised to look like official bank correspondence. These scammers are posing as representatives of the NBU's Financial Monitoring Department in an attempt to deceive citizens and steal their personal data.
A fraudulent email campaign distributing these messages was detected today. The fake communications contain demands for specific documents, which often cause alarm for the recipients. The emails originate from a variety of addresses that are not connected to any government body, making them harder to identify. To create an illusion of legitimacy, the fraudsters even include the name of a fictitious NBU employee in the email signature.
Recommendations from the National Bank
The National Bank of Ukraine urges citizens to exercise extreme caution: do not download any files attached to such emails and do not click on any embedded links. Genuine NBU staff correspond only from official corporate email accounts with the domain @bank.gov.ua, which is a key way to distinguish authentic messages from fraudulent ones.
This surge in cyber fraud is a concerning trend for Ukrainian society, especially as financial services become increasingly digital. Such scams are a global problem, and vigilance is always required. The NBU continues its efforts to inform the public about potential threats to help reduce the risks of personal data and financial loss.
