Ukraine’s Central Bank Launches New 10-Hryvnia Coins Featuring Maps of Mykolaiv and Odesa Regions

Центральний банк України представив нові монети номіналом 10 гривень, на яких зображені карти Миколаївської та Одеської областей.

New Coins Enter Circulation

On June 12, 2026, the National Bank of Ukraine introduced two new 10-hryvnia coins dedicated to the Mykolaiv and Odesa regions. These coins are minted from a zinc-based alloy with a nickel coating, with a planned release of two million units for each design.

The coins are named 'We Are Strong. We Are Together. Mykolaiv Region' and 'We Are Strong. We Are Together. Odesa Region.' Both coins share an identical obverse side, matching the standard 10-hryvnia circulation coin from 2018. The center features the coin’s denomination, the year of minting, and the national coat of arms of Ukraine, all framed by an ancient Rus ornamental pattern.

Design and Symbolism

The reverse side of each coin prominently displays a stylized map of Ukraine with clearly defined administrative borders, highlighting the territory of the respective region. These are circulation coins, underscoring their role in the country’s everyday economic activity.

“The Mykolaiv and Odesa regions are Ukraine’s southern frontiers, symbols of resilience, fortitude, and the fight for freedom. They serve as a reliable outpost, preserving our nation’s economic vitality and its connection to the world. These new commemorative circulation coins are our expression of gratitude to the people of Mykolaiv and Odesa for their unity and faith in Ukraine.”

- Andriy Pyshnyi, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine

The planned mintage of two million coins per design is intended to ensure broad public access and stimulate interest in Ukraine’s monetary history.

This launch represents a significant step in supporting the national economy amid ongoing challenges. By emphasizing the symbolic importance of these regions, the initiative aims to reinforce patriotic sentiment among citizens. It also encourages coin collecting and draws attention to Ukraine’s cultural heritage.

In addition to the recent launch of the 10-hryvnia coins representing Mykolaiv and Odesa, the National Bank of Ukraine has also introduced commemorative coins celebrating the Sumy and Chernihiv regions. This initiative not only highlights the rich cultural heritage of these areas but also emphasizes the central bank's commitment to recognizing the resilience of all Ukrainian territories.
