Tragedy Strikes in Oleksandrivka Village
A 13-year-old girl named Kira suffered a brutal dog attack in Oleksandrivka village, Dnipropetrovsk region, resulting in the amputation of her leg. The incident occurred as the child was walking home from school. A Cane Corso dog seized Kira from behind, biting her leg below the knee with such force that amputation became medically necessary. Attacks by large, powerful dog breeds like the Cane Corso can have devastating consequences, highlighting the importance of responsible ownership.
Girl's Condition and Public Outcry
Kira remains hospitalized, having undergone multiple surgeries and a course of rabies vaccinations. Her left leg sustained severe damage, with significant tissue defects and injuries to blood vessels and nerves. Her mother, Tetiana, recounted that Kira felt the dog grinding her bone and was in such shock she could not even cry from the pain.
The attack on a residential street was stopped by the father of another schoolgirl, who managed to subdue the animal. The dog's owner has since provided funds for Kira's treatment. Police have initiated a criminal investigation under Article 128 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which covers negligent infliction of serious bodily injury, and a pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
Under current Ukrainian law, there is no provision for the seizure or euthanasia of the animal involved in such an attack. This tragic case has sparked intense public debate about community safety and the risks posed by aggressive animals.
