Soldiers Attacked in Dnipropetrovsk Region

On February 21, 2025, a group of six unidentified individuals assaulted soldiers from the 24th Separate Assault Battalion "Aidar" while they were off-duty in the Dnipropetrovsk region. During the altercation, one of the assailants fired a weapon, though the servicemen did not return fire. One soldier sustained physical injuries as a result of the attack. The "Aidar" regiment, which has been active in Ukraine's defense since 2014, issued a statement condemning the act.

Police in Dnipropetrovsk have detained two men, aged 37 and 42, in the city of Kamianske. The suspects have been formally charged under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism), with the charges approved by the Dnipro Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office for the Eastern Region. According to law enforcement, the suspects provoked a conflict with the Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel, during which one of the accused fired several shots from a pistol-like object in the direction of the soldiers.

Additional Arrests and Legal Consequences

In a separate but related development, a 39-year-old man wanted for a military crime was detained in the village of Mamalyha, Dnistrovskyi district. Police used firearms during the arrest due to resistance from local residents. Furthermore, in the Lviv region, the Stryi City District Court convicted a 47-year-old clergyman from the Jehovah's Witnesses organization. The man was found guilty of unauthorized abandonment of his duty post after he refused to wear a military uniform and perform his duties as a cook in a territorial recruitment center's canteen.

"Attacking military personnel is dangerous and irresponsible," stated the "Aidar" regiment.

This incident highlights the serious security challenges facing Ukrainian servicemen, occurring against a backdrop of sustained regional tension. Attacks on military personnel can have severe consequences, as soldiers retain the right to self-defense. The arrests and legal proceedings demonstrate that law enforcement agencies are actively responding to threats against the military. It is crucial for society to understand the repercussions of such actions and to support law and order in the country.
