Attack on Temple Israel Synagogue
A man died after attacking the Temple Israel synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan. The suspect, 41-year-old Ayman Mohammad Ghazali, had purchased over two thousand dollars' worth of pyrotechnics prior to the assault. Investigators report the suspect remained in the synagogue parking lot for about two hours before crashing the vehicle into the doors around 12:15 p.m. A shootout ensued inside the building involving at least two security guards. A large quantity of commercial-grade pyrotechnics and a canister of flammable liquid, likely gasoline, were discovered in the vehicle.

Ghazali was a U.S. citizen of Lebanese descent. He entered the United States in May 2011 on an immigration visa as the spouse of an American citizen. He applied for naturalization in October 2015 and obtained U.S. citizenship in February 2016. The suspect lived in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn Heights and worked at a restaurant. His former wife filed for divorce in August 2024, and the couple had a child.
On the eve of the attack, Ghazali posted on social media photographs of deceased family members, including nephews who were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Lebanese town of Mashghara. Investigators are currently examining Ghazali's potential contacts with representatives of the Hezbollah group.
