Military Recruitment Center Attacked in Odesa, Personnel Hospitalized After Tear Gas Assault

В Одесі сталися наслідки нападу на військовий центр, постраждали військовослужбовці.

Attack Occurs in Odesa's Kyiv District

An assault on a Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) in Odesa's Kyiv district on February 15 has sparked outrage. A group of civilians attacked TRC staff who were conducting a military document check, employing tear gas and physical force. Several military personnel sustained bodily injuries of varying severity and chemical burns to their corneas. The injured were hospitalized, and the incident also resulted in damage to a service vehicle and video recording equipment.

The Odesa Regional TRC has characterized this event as an organized attack. Consequently, the center's leadership has formally petitioned law enforcement agencies to pursue criminal charges against the assailants. The actions of those involved are understood to constitute serious crimes under the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The leadership of the Odesa Regional TRC and the Joint Forces Command has emphasized that any interference with mobilization activities or the use of force against military personnel performing their duties will result in inevitable legal consequences.

“Every act of aggression will be investigated, and every participant will be identified,” stated the Odesa Regional TRC and Joint Forces Command.

Rising Tensions Between Civilians and Military

This incident serves as a significant indicator of escalating tensions between civilians and military structures in Ukraine, occurring against the backdrop of the ongoing war. Such attacks on recruitment officials may point to a deficit of public trust in military and mobilization processes, which could have serious implications for public order and security. These centers are responsible for conscription, a sensitive issue for many Ukrainians after nearly two years of full-scale conflict.

Law enforcement agencies now play a crucial role in investigating this attack and preventing similar future incidents to ensure societal stability and calm.
