Ukrainian Lawmaker Gifts $120,000 Apartment in Israel

Український депутат презентував квартирі в Ізраїлі вартістю 120 тисяч доларів.

Israeli Apartment Gift Raises Questions

On May 7, Oleksandr Kunytskyi, a member of Ukraine's 'Servant of the People' party, gifted an apartment in Israel valued at 4.91 million hryvnias (approximately $120,000). The 52.8-square-meter property had been in Kunytskyi's possession since January 2017. The recipient of the gift has not been disclosed. This transaction has drawn attention amid growing scrutiny of Ukrainian officials' foreign assets.

Departure from Ukraine and Overseas Property

Kunytskyi left Ukraine on September 23, 2024, citing an official trip to the United States to strengthen Ukrainian-American interparliamentary cooperation. He has not returned to Ukraine since his departure. In his 2025 asset declaration, Kunytskyi reported using a 43-square-meter apartment in Canada owned by a foreign national, Ion Tian. This disclosure has fueled public curiosity and may prompt further investigations into his financial dealings.

The gift of an Israeli apartment, combined with Kunytskyi's reported use of Canadian property, raises concerns about financial transparency and potential conflicts of interest. Against the backdrop of Ukraine's political climate and international relations, such actions may signal a growing trend among lawmakers toward acquiring foreign real estate, highlighting their economic status. This could intensify demands for stricter ethical standards and financial disclosure requirements for public officials.
