Actress Tamara Yatsenko's Surgical Journey

Tamara Yatsenko, a renowned actress, has undergone multiple surgical procedures, including a hip replacement. Her first operation took place before the full-scale war began, with expenses covered by her family. A subsequent necessary surgery was funded through the support of colleagues and generous Ukrainians. Notably, famous actress Olha Sumska contributed to the fundraising effort without Yatsenko's knowledge.

The Power of Community Support

Yatsenko, who holds the title of People's Artist of Ukraine, shared her gratitude:

“I had the first surgery before the war. I was afraid to even hint that I needed help. I didn't want to burden anyone. My relatives helped me. But now, producer Shpanchuk asked Olya [Sumska] without my knowledge, as I didn't want to ask people myself. I am so grateful! They extended my creative life! Now I can act in films, travel for concerts, and perform in plays.” - Tamara Yatsenko

The People's Artist title also grants Yatsenko a higher pension, improving her financial management. She explained:

“The title of People's Artist of Ukraine adds a certain percentage to my pension. It's a bit larger than a regular actor's pension. I watch my spending: when I need to save, I save. When I want to indulge a little, I allow myself to buy not red caviar, but pollock roe. It's also very tasty. I can afford that! Sometimes I crave sweets, and I can treat myself to a Kyiv cake.” - Tamara Yatsenko

In this way, the support from colleagues and caring Ukrainians provided crucial assistance to the actress during a difficult period, enabling her to continue her creative work.

This situation highlights the importance of community and support amid the hardships faced not only by artists but also by many people in Ukraine during the war. The backing of peers and fans can be a decisive factor in preserving an artist's creative life and opportunities to realize their talent in times of crisis. Returning to active work in the arts not only restores the artist's personal endeavors but also helps sustain the country's cultural heritage during challenging times.
