Deputy Head of the State Consumer Service, Vadim Chaikovsky, expressed outrage that the war in Ukraine complicates the fight against locusts, which have been fluctuating across the southern regions. The main problem is that due to restrictions on aviation flights and the loss of control over occupied territories, planes and drones can no longer treat areas affected by this pest.
Chaikovsky explained: «Previously, planes and drones were actively used for spraying large areas against locusts. Now these insects can multiply uncontrollably,» he complains.
Currently, locusts are already in four regions, and entomologist Viktor Brigadairenko even predicts their possible spread to the Kyiv region. The situation is complex, but every effort will be made to contain the enemy to agricultural crops and wildlife.
