Consequences of abnormal heat: Greece is burning, thousands of people evacuated

Gusts of stormy winds have posed a serious obstacle to extinguishing wildfires on the island of Crete in Greece. The fire has spread to forests and olive groves, forcing thousands of people to evacuate. About 130 firefighters, 48 vehicles, and six helicopters have been involved in firefighting efforts on the island.


Dry weather and strong winds have increased the risk of fire resuming even after some areas have been localized. Overall, in Greece, against the backdrop of abnormal heat, fires have become more widespread, and the country is currently experiencing a critical situation due to extremely high temperatures.



The situation with wildfires on the island of Crete and in Athens is being monitored in Greece with heightened concern due to the high risk to people and nature.
