In Kamloops, Canada, the great legend of athletics – Anatoly Pavlovich Bondarchuk – passed away at the age of 85. He was a European champion, Olympic champion, world record holder, and honored coach of the USSR. He had many impressive sports achievements.
A little earlier, another athlete tragically died at a veterans' match in Lutsk – former Ukrainian national football player Andriy Viktorovich Polunin. He played for many clubs, was a well-known footballer, and had many successful matches and goals to his name.
Unfortunately, young Ukrainian athlete Vitaliy Rymaruk, who served as an officer in the National Guard, also lost his life. He was a youth champion and a prizewinner in the adult championships. The tragedy occurred at the front in the Donetsk region.
