Natalia Denysenko Falls Victim to Online Fraud
Ukrainian actress Natalia Denysenko lost 9,000 hryvnias in a scam while attempting to buy uncolored, curly children's hair. She paid an upfront deposit, but the sellers vanished immediately after receiving the money. Although she had been searching for the hair product in Kyiv, all communication with the fraudsters ceased once the payment was made.
The scammers operated through a social media page that appeared legitimate, boasting followers, positive reviews, and active correspondence. This facade of trustworthiness ultimately led to the actress's financial loss. Denysenko recounted:
“I sent them the prepayment — 9,000 hryvnias — and they disappeared.”
Actress's Image Used Without Consent
Following the incident, it emerged that the same fraudsters had also exploited Denysenko's likeness without permission in an advertisement for an online casino. The ad falsely suggested she endorsed gambling and shared winning stories. The actress has publicly denied any involvement, stating the video was fabricated and she has no connection to the promotion.
Denysenko has appealed to the public for guidance:
“I know I should have double-checked a hundred times, but does anyone have contacts for where to report this to the cyber police?”Her experience serves as a stark warning about the dangers of online fraud, particularly in buy-and-sell transactions.
This case underscores the need for heightened caution when shopping online, as fraudulent schemes grow increasingly sophisticated. Consumers should thoroughly vet sellers and rely on secure platforms for transactions. Denysenko's ordeal also highlights the urgent need for stronger digital security measures, especially in advertising and product promotion.
Denysenko's unfortunate experience is a stark reminder of the risks associated with online transactions, much like a recent incident involving a Russian woman who was deceived by a scammer's false promises, leading her to take drastic actions. Such cases highlight the urgent need for vigilance when engaging in online purchases. To read more about this alarming trend of scam-related incidents, visit this related story.
