Anti-Corruption Workshops Across Ukraine in 2023
Throughout 2023, experts from the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NAZK) delivered eight comprehensive training sessions in eight regional capitals of Ukraine. These workshops aimed to boost the effectiveness of corruption exposure efforts and enhance collaboration with anti-corruption bodies. Nearly 200 participants attended, including investigative journalists, civic activists, and journalism students.
Held from March to October 2023, these events took place in Cherkasy, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Dnipro, Odesa, Kharkiv, Poltava, and Uzhhorod. The total duration of the training exceeded 50 hours. The initiative was organized in partnership with UNDP Ukraine and received financial backing from the Japanese government through its embassy in Ukraine.
Core Topics Covered in the Trainings
The curriculum focused on key areas such as:
- Proper procedures for reporting corruption cases;
- Comprehensive methods for verifying asset declarations;
- Monitoring lifestyle changes: stages and specific characteristics;
- Utilizing open data platforms to access anti-corruption registries and locate essential information.
These subjects were designed to deepen participants’ understanding of anti-corruption mechanisms and tools, which is vital for strengthening Ukraine’s fight against corruption.
These workshops represent a significant advancement in reinforcing Ukraine’s anti-corruption framework by equipping key actors with foundational knowledge essential for uncovering corruption. Raising awareness among journalists, activists, and students is expected to increase the number of corruption reports, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness of anti-corruption institutions. Moreover, this program highlights the critical role of international support—both financial and educational—in Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption.
As Ukraine continues to strengthen its anti-corruption efforts, the recent workshops conducted by NAZK are complemented by the country's presentation of its wartime strategies at an international conference. This engagement not only showcases Ukraine's commitment to transparency but also highlights its innovative approaches to minimizing corruption risks during challenging times.
