National Bank of Ukraine Launches Open Research Seminar Series

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) is launching a new season of its open research seminars. The next event is scheduled for March 12 at 4:00 PM. The seminar will focus on the intersection of carbon emissions and monetary policy. The featured speaker will be Olena Havrylchyk from the University of Paris, who will present findings from a study conducted jointly with Pedram Pourabdollahvand.

Key Findings of the Research

The study investigates how monetary policy impacts firms differently based on the intensity of their carbon emissions. The analysis uses U.S. data covering the period from 2005 to 2022. The results indicate that firms with higher carbon intensity are more sensitive to changes in monetary policy. However, this specific correlation was not found within the Eurozone. The seminar will be conducted in English.

The NBU's open research seminars aim to promote academic research and facilitate the exchange of knowledge in the field of economics. This seminar's topic is particularly timely as central banks worldwide increasingly consider climate-related risks in their policy frameworks. The findings could inform future discussions on integrating environmental considerations into monetary policy, both in Ukraine and internationally.
