New Commemorative Coin Announced
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has announced a new commemorative gold coin to mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence. This limited-edition piece, with a face value of 100 hryvnias, will be released ahead of Independence Day and will form part of the 'Ukrainian State' series. Only 1,000 of these coins will be minted, enhancing their collectible value.
Crafted from 900 fine gold, the coin will have a diameter of 32 millimeters and a weight of 31.1 grams. It will be struck in proof quality, ensuring a superior finish with sharp details and a mirror-like background. Such commemorative issues are a common way for central banks to honor national milestones and generate interest in numismatics.
Other Recent Commemorative Issues
In addition to this anniversary coin, the NBU recently released a commemorative piece dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of Nil Khasevych. This coin, part of the 'Outstanding Personalities of Ukraine' series, has a face value of 2 hryvnias and is made from a copper-nickel-zinc alloy called 'neusilber'. The bank has also launched a circulating commemorative series titled 'We Are Strong. We Are United', featuring 10-hryvnia coins with a stylized map of Ukraine and its administrative borders on the reverse.
- A commemorative coin dedicated to the Archangel Michael, with a face value of 20 hryvnias, has also been minted from 900 fine gold.
- The obverse of this coin depicts a stylized laurel wreath against a background of the MM-14 pattern, commonly known as 'Pixel' or 'Ukrainian Pixel' camouflage.
The release of the new gold coin for the 35th independence anniversary underscores the historical significance of this event for national identity. Its limited mintage highlights its appeal to collectors and the public alike. This initiative further demonstrates the National Bank of Ukraine's active role in promoting Ukrainian history and culture through its numismatic programs.
