Storm Wreaks Havoc in Lviv
A powerful storm swept through Lviv, causing extensive damage to buildings, toppling trees, snapping power lines, and bringing tram traffic to a standstill. Mayor Andriy Sadovyi urged residents to exercise caution. The wind tore off part of the roof of the Shevchenko District Administration building, with debris crashing onto parked cars below. Several upper-floor windows were also shattered by the force of the storm.
Damage Reports and Safety Advice
Fallen trees were reported across the city, notably on Kopernyka and Yefremova streets. Near Franko Park, a tree struck a trolleybus, while another fell close to St. George's Church, damaging the overhead contact lines. Additional line breaks occurred at several key locations:
- Solomiya Krushelnytska Street,
- the Chornovola–Lypynskoho traffic circle,
- the intersection of Stepan Bandera and Kopernyka Streets,
- near the Soborna stop on Ivana Franka Street.
Power was temporarily cut on Lypynskoho Street, further complicating the electrical supply situation.
To keep people safe, Mayor Sadovyi advised against sheltering under trees, approaching broken wires, or getting close to damaged structures. 'We are receiving reports of flooding and damage in various parts of the city. There are reports of fallen trees on Kopernyka and Yefremova streets. Near Franko Park, a tree fell on a trolleybus. Near St. George's Church, a tree also fell and damaged the contact network,' the Lviv City Council stated.
Tram routes No. 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, and 9 have been temporarily suspended. The mayor called on residents to report fallen trees, downed wires, or other hazards to the city's hotline at 15-80. A traffic light collapsed at the Varshavska–Tunnelna intersection, adding to transportation difficulties. Meanwhile, thunderstorms are forecast for Kyiv and the Kyiv region through the end of June 29, with a Level I (yellow) danger warning in effect.
