VAKS confiscated over 4 million hryvnias from a former deputy: what the state took away

Від колишнього депутата вилучено понад 4 мільйони гривень: захист активів держави.

On November 21, 2025, the High Anti-Corruption Court supported the lawsuit of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office regarding the recognition of unjustified assets amounting to over 4 million UAH, which are being used by the family of a former city council deputy in Sumy region. These assets will be seized for the benefit of the state (civil confiscation).

The defendant agreed to pay the state an amount equivalent to the value of the recognized assets - 4,274,050 UAH.

The contested property was acquired by the relatives of the deputy from 2021 to 2022, including an apartment, parking space, and a car. An analysis of the family's financial data showed that their income could not account for such purchases. The consideration of the lawsuit began in the summer of 2025.

“After analyzing the evidence, the SAP prosecutor and the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption decided to support measures to seize unjustified assets for the benefit of the state.”

This news indicates a strengthening of the fight against corruption in Ukraine and the importance of the legal system in combating the unjust enrichment of officials and their families.
