The situation surrounding Nestor Shufrych

Member of Parliament Nestor Shufrych, who is under suspicion of treason, has received the opportunity to be released on bail of 33.2 million hryvnias. The corresponding decision was made by the court, and according to Shufrych's lawyer Viktor Karpenko, the bail is planned to be paid around January 12-13, 2024. Shufrych is also under sanctions imposed by the President of Ukraine on January 19, 2025, based on the National Security and Defense Council's decision to apply decade-long sanctions.

Details of the Shufrych case

Shufrych was declared a suspect in treason in September 2023, and in February 2024 received a new suspicion for financing the National Guard of Russia in Crimea. As it is known, he paid 500,000 Russian rubles for the security of an unfinished sanatorium in Crimea and collaborated with Volodymyr Sivkovych. It is noteworthy that in 2020, Shufrych declared significant assets, including:

  • 2.45 million dollars;
  • 2 million euros;
  • 5.8 million hryvnias in cash.

This indicates his status as a dollar millionaire by the standards of the official declaration.

Furthermore, Shufrych filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Court to cancel the sanctions in April 2025, and the case has been under consideration since early December 2025. On September 15, 2023, he was detained and entered the SBU's pre-trial detention center. It should be noted that on January 6, 2026, the Kyiv Court of Appeals made a decision to change Shufrych's preventive measure.

The further development of the Shufrych case may have a significant impact on the political situation in the country and the public's trust in state institutions.
