Deadly Night Assault on Dnipro

In the early hours of April 23, Russian forces launched a drone attack on a high-rise residential building in central Dnipro. The strike, carried out using attack drones, destroyed apartments spanning from the sixth to the ninth floors. Utilities including water, gas, and electricity were cut off in the building. Damage was recorded at four separate locations, with at least 13 buildings affected. The attack also damaged the exhibition center of the Union of Artists of Ukraine and a musical instrument store.

At least two people were killed and ten others wounded in the assault. Separately, over the past 24 hours, occupying forces carried out 820 strikes across 50 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region, resulting in one injury in the Zaporizhzhia district.

Local Officials Respond

Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov stated that

“as soon as rescue workers give the go-ahead, we will begin a technical assessment.”
He added that
“the situation, unfortunately, resembles what happened in the fall on Heroiv Avenue,”
but stressed the need to wait for expert findings.

This attack underscores the ongoing aggression by Russian forces, which continues to damage civilian infrastructure and cause human casualties. The events in Dnipro and the Zaporizhzhia region point to an escalation of the conflict that targets not only military sites but also directly harms civilians, demanding urgent action from the international community. The critical state of infrastructure and security in Ukraine remains a pressing concern as local authorities work to restore services and support affected communities.

The recent drone strike in Dnipro is part of a troubling pattern, as evidenced by a similar nighttime assault that struck three Ukrainian cities, resulting in multiple casualties. This escalation highlights the ongoing threats to civilian life and infrastructure across the nation, further emphasizing the urgent need for international attention and support.
