Deadly Overnight Strike on Kyiv: 11 Killed and Over 30 Wounded

Фатальний нічний удар по Києву: 11 загиблих та понад 30 поранених.

Massive Missile and Drone Assault on the Capital

In the early hours of July 2, the Russian military launched a large-scale attack on Kyiv using both missiles and drones. The strike damaged the city's energy infrastructure, including facilities operated by DTEK. As a result, some residents were left without electricity. Emergency crews from DTEK were dispatched to manage the aftermath, but officials have not disclosed the specific blackout zones or the full extent of the destruction.

Weapons Used and Human Toll

During the assault on Kyiv, Russian forces deployed drones, ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as Zircon hypersonic missiles. According to Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko, the attack hit 28 different locations, confirmed the deaths of 11 people, and left over 30 others injured.

DTEK expressed gratitude to the air defense forces and State Emergency Service (SES) rescuers for their efforts during the crisis.

“As soon as it became possible, our energy workers immediately went to the impact sites. We are doing everything we can to restore power to all residents of the capital as quickly as possible. We thank the air defense forces and SES rescuers. We are working side by side — DTEK,”
stated the company's official press release.

This latest strike on Kyiv is part of Russia's ongoing campaign against Ukraine, which has persisted since the start of the conflict. Attacks targeting energy infrastructure are designed not only to destroy material assets but also to demoralize the civilian population. Amid the constant threat, Ukraine must continue to strengthen its energy security and protect critical infrastructure, relying heavily on the efforts of its defense and rescue services.
