Night Attack on Kyiv: Medic Killed While Trying to Rescue People

On January 9, a night attack took place in Kyiv, resulting in the deaths of four people and 24 others injured. Among the deceased is 56-year-old medic Serhiy Mykolayovych Smolyak, who arrived at the scene to save people. The time of confirmation of the medic's death was recorded at 04:40.

The attack affected not only civilians but also rescuers. Five of them were injured while carrying out their duties. Of the 24 injured, 16 were hospitalized. The attack caused significant damage:

  • residential buildings
  • civilian objects
  • shopping center
  • sanatorium
  • children's playground

It is also noted that in some areas of the capital, there were interruptions in electricity supply, water, and heating. The city of Slavutych was in a state of complete blackout during the attack. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko and other officials are responding to the situation, expressing condolences to the families of the deceased and injured.

This tragedy underscores the constant threat faced by Ukrainian cities amid an armed conflict.
