Explosions Rock Saratov and Engels
Numerous explosions struck the Russian cities of Saratov and Engels during the night of March 4-5, causing power outages and a fire. Governor Roman Busargin described the incident as one of the most massive attacks the region has experienced. The event began around 11:00 PM and lasted for several hours.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing at least 60 explosions, which were audible in both cities. The strikes resulted in a fire in one district of Saratov and power supply interruptions in parts of both Saratov and Engels. Emergency services are currently working at the sites to deal with the aftermath of the blasts. These cities are located deep within Russian territory, hundreds of kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Repeat Attacks Heighten Regional Tensions
This attack repeats events from the night of February 22-23, when Saratov Oblast also came under a mass drone assault. The situation in the region remains tense.
The explosions in Saratov and Engels point to escalating regional tensions, likely connected to the ongoing military conflict in Ukraine. Such incidents indicate the potential for new security threats within Russia, particularly in regions far from the front lines. The ability of local authorities and emergency services to respond to these attacks will be crucial for maintaining stability and public safety.
