Russia Launches Major Attack on Ukraine
In the early hours of July 11, Russia carried out a large-scale assault on Ukraine, deploying over 120 drones and 12 missiles—half of which were ballistic. The attack left 11 people injured in Kyiv, including one child. Strikes on civilian infrastructure were recorded even before air raid sirens sounded, causing damage to residential buildings, office spaces, and a theological seminary in the capital. This incident is part of an ongoing pattern of intensified Russian aggression against Ukrainian urban centers.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that most incoming threats were intercepted, but the ballistic missiles managed to penetrate deeper into the country.
“Eleven people were wounded in Kyiv during the overnight Russian attack, including a child. Strikes on civilian infrastructure occurred even before the air raid alert was announced. Emergency services are now on the scene,” the president stated. Cleanup and response operations are also underway in the Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions.
Impact on Kyiv and Public Transport
Within Kyiv, impacts and fires were reported in the Solomianskyi, Darnytskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts. The assault forced temporary changes to city transit:
- Tram service on Route No. 8 has been suspended;
- A temporary bus route, No. 8T, has been introduced to connect the Pozniaky metro station with Yaltynska Street.
President Zelenskyy also voiced his expectation that international partners will fulfill their pledges of support packages to protect Ukrainian civilians.
“Right now, the number one task for all our institutions is to make sure that happens,” the president emphasized.
This assault ranks among the most substantial in recent weeks, signaling a sharp escalation in Russian hostilities. It unfolds against a backdrop of relentless shelling of Ukrainian cities, which continues to devastate civilian infrastructure and cause casualties. Ukraine’s response—particularly its success in downing the majority of aerial threats—highlights the nation’s determined efforts to defend its territory and people, as well as the critical role of international aid in that fight.
The recent attack on Kyiv is not an isolated incident, as the city has faced repeated assaults throughout July. In fact, just days ago, a similar attack resulted in casualties, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by Russian ballistic strikes.
